Message from the Director Many Marvelous Moments in May!
As we turn our calendars to May, we welcome Education Week. Across Ontario, schools and school districts are celebrating learning. While educators value learning every day, Education Week is an opportunity for us to share publicly the learning that happens each and every day in our classrooms.
This month, we have many marvelous moments happening. We have students engaged in physical fitness through the GoodLife Kids Foundation, students engaged in dramatic arts, over 1,000 students participating in Music Monday, students attending an “Action for Building a Community that is Drug-Free” symposium, grade ten students celebrating Aboriginal Youth Day and all our grade 8 students exploring post-secondary school options at Sault College. We even have an evening presentation for parents focused on supporting teenagers.
During Education Week we are also giving back to the community. Many Algoma District School Board schools are collecting canned food items for local food banks. We recognize the need to be active and caring members of our communities…not just through our words but through our actions.
It is our sincere hope that you will find time to visit one of our schools to see learning in action, or, for those in Sault Ste. Marie, that you will stop and review the school displays at Station Mall. As a community member, when you engage in students’ learning, ask children questions about what they are learning and celebrate learning, you are sending the important message that learning matters and that learning is valuable.
Happy Education Week, and thank you for supporting and valuing learning in our communities.
