River View is a small elementary public school that serves students from Junior Kindergarten to Grade 8. Our primary goal is to enable children to achieve academic excellence and outstanding citizenship in a safe and caring environment where learning is engaging and fun. In addition to academics, River View offers your child many extra-curricular opportunities. The River View Rooks is a fun and competitive chess club open to children in all grades with instruction for players new to the game and advanced competitors. The Rooks also host the River View Summer Chess Academy with instruction from FIDE Master, Andrew Peredun. In athletics, our River View Bears have many teams participating at the interschool level in a variety of sports including: cross-country running, soccer, volleyball, basketball, curling, baseball, and track & field. We compete for fun, fitness and to learn the fundamentals of sports.
On a daily and weekly basis, River View offers the Northern Ontario Fruits and Vegetables Program, pizza days, a milk program, a healthy snacks school store. Family Science Night, monthly student recognition assemblies, the Christmas Concert, family dances, Curriculum Night, and our annual Cirque de River View Fun Fair are also integral parts of our vibrant school community. If you're looking to become more involved at River View, we are always looking for family volunteers in a variety of capacities. Also, please consider joining our active School Council, which runs from 6:00 to 8:30 p.m. on a monthly basis.
