The Algoma District School Board (ADSB) approved the appointment of three new Student Trustees for the 2025 / 2026 school year. The successful candidate for the incoming Indigenous Student Trustee position for 2025 / 2026 is Mercedes Pine-Edge from Superior Heights C&VS.
All appointments become effective as of August 1, 2025.
Liz Inglis is currently a Grade 10 student at White Pines C&VS and has identified three key priorities which she is committed to focusing on during her term as Student Trustee - inclusivity, mental health, and cultural diversity awareness. She believes strongly that these areas are critical in creating supportive, engaging, and respectful school environments for students at all ADSB schools.
Liz has been involved in School Council and Student Senate at her school and is heavily involved in theatre, working on numerous productions at both her school and local theater companies. Liz has been recognized for her strong leadership and communication skills and her experiences working with students, staff, and the wider community have equipped her with the skills to effectively advocate for student needs at the board level.
She has also been acknowledged for her motivation, dedication, and ability to work with others towards a common goal, often inspiring her peers to greater involvement and achievement.
Tatyanna Sauve is currently a Grade 11 student at Elliot Lake Secondary School. She has three main priority areas as a Student Trustee – increasing positive mental health, creating safe spaces in schools and encouraging greater cultural representation in schools. She is dedicated to ensuring that the voices of students within the district are included at the Board level.
Over the past year, Tatyanna has been the Student Senate Lead at ELSS. She and a fellow student helped to increase interest in Student Senate for the 24/25 school year and in so doing is pleased to see a renewed sense of school spirit, unity and equity in the school. She has organized successful dances, games nights, movie nights and fundraisers at the school and has been proactive in advocating for students’ rights and initiatives.
Tatyanna has applied for grants to enhance the school's common areas and technology departments, creating a more engaging and dynamic environment for students.
Mercedes Pine-Edge is the current Vice-Chair of the Northern Indigenous Youth Council and is the incoming Indigenous Student Trustee. She is currently a grade 11 student at Superior Heights Collegiate. She is passionate about making a positive impact in her community and in advocating for the rights and well-being of her peers. Mercedes believes that by amplifying the voices and perspectives of Indigenous students, we can create lasting change and drive positive outcomes.
Mercedes has been recognized as a kind and caring student who has been actively involved in her school. She has developed and fostered countless positive relationships with students in her school and is always looking for new ways to get involved.
