Focus On Our Priorities

(Sept 29, 2023) On Saturday, September 30th, Canadians will recognize the National Day for Truth & Reconciliation. Algoma District School Board (ADSB) students and staff acknowledged this special date on September 28th (as September 29th is a Professional Development day).

Algoma Public Health (APH) is working closely with parents and schools to ensure that we meet the immunization requirements listed in the Immunization of School Pupils Act (ISPA). This Act helps us stay prepared and respond effectively to any infectious disease risks or outbreaks that may occur at your child's school.

This summer, Algoma District School Board (ADSB) and Lassonde School of Engineering at York University partnered to launch a new Indigenous Engineering, Technology & Innovation by Design program for high school students. This brand-new, work-integrated learning program took place from July 18 to August 12, 2022 at WC Eaket Secondary School in Blind River.

(Oct 4, 2022) This fall Algoma District School Board (ADSB) has seen a significant increase in the number of Multilingual Learners registered with the Board. In August and September alone, ADSB welcomed 68 students from 13 countries to 23 of our schools speaking 16 different languages. Trustees at ADSB’s October 4th Committee of the Whole meeting learned more about the supports that are in place to welcome and register these students into our schools from Megan Turner McMillan (the Board’s K-12 ELL Coordinator) and Linda Kirby (ADSB’s Program System Administrator.)

(Oct 20, 2022) Grade 8 students are enjoying their final year as intermediate students. While they have graduation and school trips to look forward to, they also have high school on the horizon and may have thoughts and questions about their transition to Grade 9. Algoma District School Board (ADSB) has planned an event that will encourage Grade 8 students to begin thinking not only about entering high school, but also about planning for their future.

(June 2022) ADSB, in partnership with Great Lakes Culture Camps, will once again be operating ADSB Indigenous Summer Transition Camps for Indigenous students who are moving from Grade 8 into Grade 9 in the fall. Called 2022 Niibing - Enakamigisyang (Things We Do In Summer), two camps will run this year, one in Serpent River First Nation, the other in Garden River First Nation. (Sept 21, 2021) This year, ADSB welcomes back 98% of our students to in-person learning while 2% of our students have opted for virtual/remote learning.

(Sept 21, 2021) Since the end of June, Algoma District School Board (ADSB) has focused on supporting and engaging our staff, students and families in order that they feel prepared for and excited about the 21/22 school year.

(June 2021) The ADSB Summer Wellness Line is now available! ADSB parents (or students age 14 and older) are welcome to phone the Summer Wellness Line if you would like to book a virtual appointment for counselling support for your student and so much more.
