Review of Graduation Rates

The Ministry of Education calculates the Board Graduation Rate based on the number of students who graduate with an Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) after five years of secondary school. All students who begin in a Grade 9 cohort within the Board are included by the Ministry within the Board’s Graduation Rate, including those students who move to other areas of the province. In addition to the Ministry data, the Board is also calculating its own Graduation Rate based on the number of students who have not transferred to other Boards and who have completed the requirements for any secondary program. Superintendent Joe Maurice shared that through the efforts of the Re-Engagement Initiative and other Student Success initiatives, fewer students are leaving secondary school without completing a program. A large majority have either graduated from a program or remain enrolled in a secondary program after 5 years.
