Award-winning orator from Johnson-Tarbutt Central Public School

kyleKyle McDonald is a Grade 6 student at Johnson-Tarbutt Central Public School.
Over the past several months he has presented his oral at every level and has moved on each time. Kyle went on to represent the Algoma District School Board at the Provincial Oral Presentation to be held in May in Sault Ste. Marie.Trustees and guests were treated to Kyle’s award winning oral at the Committee of the Whole on Tuesday April 21 (2015). Kyle’s oral was on “orals”! His humerous content and energetic delivery clearly contributed to his first place win in his classroom (with Grade 6 teacher Mr. Nye), his first place win at the school level and his first place win at the local legion in Bruce Mines. Kyle went on to the district competition in Blind River and to the regionals that were held in Kapuskasing.

Johnson-Tarbutt Central Public School Principal Maurice Dugas introduced Kyle at the meeting on Tuesday. “Kyle is showing tremendous leadership within the school community and courage in his public speaking journey. We’re so proud of him and where he’s gotten to.”

Provincial Silver Medal winner from Central Algoma Secondary School shares oral

jacobThe Board of Trustees, Superintendents of Education and Director of Education for the Algoma District School Board all had the opportunity to hear another award winning oral at a board meeting.

Jacob Cedolia is a student at Central Algoma Secondary School (CASS). He recently took the silver medal at the Provincial Oral Competition held in Sault Ste Marie. This is the competition where only four contests per age group compete for first, second and third place. The four competitors represent four regions of Ontario.

Jacob had competed and placed first this year at competitions held on St. Joseph Island, Bruce Mines, Blind River, Kapaskasing and Sault Ste Marie.

Up until this past year Jacob had been home schooled by his parents and his oral was about his experience. He entered high school this year (14/15) and is currently in Grade 12 at CASS. He spoke about his appreciation for both home schooling and public schooling and articulated what each has done for him.
