Five Level Leadership includes Spirit, Imagination, Intellect, Heart and Hands

Algoma District School Board System Administrators took part in a session with entrepreneur and self-professed “leadership junkie” Doug Keeley. Doug is the CEO and Chief Storyteller of The Mark of a Leader and a globally recognized communicator.

The Mark of a Leader is a program designed to inspire new thinking in the workforce about leadership, engagement, and corporate culture. Doug is a born storyteller and an accomplished musician and he incorporates both talents as he tells some very compelling leadership stories over the course of his presentation. Based on a powerful concept called Five Level Leadership, his program shares insights into the success of many of the world’s greatest leaders and brands and shows how their leadership principles can be applied to any organization today whether it be financial institutes or boards of education.

Doug’s Five Levels of Leadership: Spirit, Imagination, Intellect, Heart, and Hands. In essence, these levels cover the many facets of leadership, including creativity, passion and intellect. Doug feels leadership is everyone’s responsibility. None of the five levels of leadership that he describes are restricted to one level in an organizational hierarchy. Doug’s view of leadership is much broader than that defined by a person’s position.

Doug highlights some fairly consistent HR statistics to back up that belief. In a typical organization, he says, 20% of people are leading, 60% are following them doing whatever they’re told, and 20% are actually wrecking it for everyone else.

Doug worked with ADSB administrators encouraging them to share their own personal stories to help develop effective storytelling skills. It is Doug’s belief that powerful stories can assist in developing great leaders as they learn to share what makes their company or employees great.
