Algoma District School Board plays a part in the Healthy Kids Community Challenge

Funded by the Ministry of Health and Long-Term Care, the Healthy Kids Community Challenge is a joint three-year  project organized with the City of Sault Ste. Marie, Algoma Public Health and the Algoma Leadership Table which promotes healthy eating, physical activity and healthy lifestyles choices for children.The City of Sault Ste. Marie, along with 45 communities in Ontario, has been selected to take part in the challenge and ADSB is one of several community partners, including health, recreation and local business, who will work together to implement community-based programs that support healthy habits among local children and their families.
 
Algoma District School Board is supporting the promotion of events and is encouraging student volunteers to become involved to accumulate volunteer hours. This initiative ties in perfectly with our strategic priority of Well-being which includes a focus on physical activity, well-being and building strong character.
A pick-up ball hockey event with the Soo Greyhounds hockey team kicked off the local Challenge where kids 12 and under enjoyed 5 minute rotating games of ball hockey for the duration of the two-hour event.
