Student Mental Health Supports Remain Priority

(January 20, 2021) Mental health and well-being are priorities of the Algoma District School Board (ADSB), especially as the Board navigates through the Covid-19 pandemic. Superintendent Brent Vallee provided an update on ADSB Mental Health Initiatives at the ADSB Regular Board Meeting on January 19, 2021.

Postponement of March Break 2021 and Change to April 30 PD Day made by School Boards

On February 11, 2021 Ontario's Minister of Education Stephen Lecce, issued the following statement regarding March Break: "In support of our collective efforts to keep schools
safe, we are postponing March Break until April 12-16, 2021. This decision was made with the best advice of Ontario's Chief Medical Officer of Health and public health officials, including consultations with many local Medical Officers of Health.”

Recognizing Black History Month

February is Black History Month in Canada and the United States. While we are encouraging learning activities in the month of February, we also recognize that Black History is Canadian History so the integration of learning about Black Canadians and their contributions to Canadian society should be ongoing throughout the year.

Acknowledging Algoma District School Board’s Graduates of 2020

ADSB staff were tasked with thinking of alternate recognitions and celebrations for their Grade 8 and Grade 12 graduates. School administration and staff took up the challenge with enthusiasm, creativity and a strong desire to honour the Graduates of 2020 which in ADSB numbered close to 1500.

Orange Shirt Day

On September 30 many people across Canada will wear an orange shirt to honour the children who survived the residential schools and remember those who did not.

ADSB Summer Wellness Line

The ADSB Summer Wellness Line is now available! ADSB parents (or students age 14 and older) are welcome to phone the Summer Wellness Line.

Aviation and Aerospace Specialist High Skills Major Program

The Algoma District School Board is offering an innovative program available for Grade 11 and 12 students. The Aviation and Aerospace Specialist High Skills Major (SHSM) Program allows students to focus their high school learning on the Aviation and Aerospace sector while meeting the requirements for secondary graduation. They will learn sector specific skills and knowledge in a hands-on, career related learning environment.
