Introducing the ADSB Alliance Academy
(Feb 2025)The Algoma District School Board (ADSB) is very excited to announce the launch of the ADSB Alliance Academy. Building upon the strength and success of ADSB’s Hockey Canada Skills Academy (HCSA), we will be expanding our ADSB academy from hockey to three additional sports - basketball, football and soccer - for September 2025 in Sault Ste. Marie.
The ADSB Alliance Academy is a cross-city opportunity for all genders entering Grades 9 and 10, who attend our three secondary schools in Sault Ste Marie (Korah, Superior Heights and White Pines). Students will access eligible bus routes in the morning to take them to the Alliance Academy of their choice. Students will then be transported back to their home school for the afternoon via an ADSB lunch-time shuttle.
Exciting Alliance Academy offerings include:
Semester 1 of the 25/26 School Year (September 2025 to January 2026)
• Basketball – new and being housed at White Pines
• Hockey – ongoing and being housed at John Rhodes
Semester 2 of the 25/26 School Year (January to June 2026)
• Soccer – new and being housed at Korah and Northern Community Centre (NCC)
• Football – new and being housed at Superior Heights

We are extremely proud of our ADSB Hockey Canada Skills Academy which has been spearheaded by Principal Steve Caruso. Building upon this strong program foundation, Steve will be leading the planning for the ADSB academy expansion. We have watched as the HCSA has positively impacted student achievement, credit accumulation, confidence, well-being and attendance, and we are confident the same benefits will be seen for students involved in the Alliance Academy.
Like the ADSB’s Hockey Canada Skills Academy, the vision of the Alliance Academy is to engage students in innovative experiences and to help them learn and improve individual skills and tactics in basketball, football and/or soccer. Purposeful practices led by highly trained staff, strength and conditioning designed to maximize physical attributes, and a focus on leadership, character, and career exploration will all position our students to achieve their individual goals in an engaging environment.
