What to do if you have a general question or concern
The Algoma District School Board recognizes that a close working relationship between school and parents/guardians is essential to fostering and maintaining a strong learning environment. It is recognized that differences of opinion may arise from time to time.
It is the practice of the ADSB to address public concerns in a fair, respectful and effective manner. If a parent/guardian has a concern about a school matter, the following procedures are available to the parent/guardian for review of the issue:
Step 1: Review of the Issue with the Child’s Teacher (Contact Your Child's Classroom Teacher)
The parent/guardian is expected to review a concern or issue with the classroom teacher at a mutually convenient time. Any classroom-related question should be raised with your child’s classroom teacher. They can help with issues including, but not limited to, homework, assignments and report cards.
Step 2: Review by the School Principal (Contact the School Principal)
If the parent/guardian and the teacher are not able to resolve the concern, the parent/ guardian may request that the concern be reviewed by the school principal (or designate). The principal (or designate) will review the concern and work to resolve the matter as quickly as possible. The principal can help with issues including, but not limited to, student registration, special education, transportation, schedules, suspensions, code of conduct, school safety, fundraising and parent councils.
Contact the Student and Family Support Office
The Student and Family Support Office (SFSO) is available to assist families who need additional support after connecting with their child’s teacher and school principal, or when a concern is not school-related. The SFSO request form is meant for questions or concerns related to their child’s education, particularly when an issue is complex or cannot be addressed at the school level
Our office can help clarify next steps, connect you with your superintendent or provide resources and guidance.
