Role of Trustees
Given recent changes to the role of school board trustees, we anticipate additional information will be forthcoming, thus the information provided here reflects what is known at this time. Information will be updated if/as new details become available.
Parents or guardians may contact trustees at any time. Trustees shall outline for the parent/guardian the process to be followed in resolving any concerns or the appropriate person or step in the process (dependent on the steps the parents/guardians have already undertaken to resolve the concerns at the time the trustee is contacted), but shall not act as a representative of the parents or guardians.
What to do if you have a complaint or a concern
The Algoma District School Board recognizes that a close working relationship between school and parents/guardians is essential to fostering and maintaining a strong learning environment. It is recognized that differences of opinion may arise from time to time. It is the practice of the ADSB to address public concerns in a fair, respectful and effective manner. If a parent/guardian has a concern about a school matter, the following procedures are available to the parent/guardian for review of the issue:
Step 1: Review of the Issue with the Child’s Teacher
The parent/guardian is expected to review a concern or issue with the classroom teacher at a mutually convenient time.
Step 2: Review by the School Principal
If the parent/guardian and the teacher are not able to resolve the concern, the parent/ guardian may request that the concern be reviewed by the school principal (or designate). The principal (or designate) will review the concern and work to resolve the matter as quickly as possible.
Step 3: Contact the Student and Family Support Office (SFSO)
The Student and Family Support Office (SFSO) is available to assist families who need additional support after connecting with their child’s teacher and school principal, or when an issue is complex or cannot be addressed at the school level.
